Asia stretches over two seas, 66% of Eurasia, and 53 countries containing five billion people. Its historical economic dynamo power has been restored in recent decades and Asia’s third modern growth wave will be the greatest economic and technological transformation with 2.8 billion people part of this profound and historic surge.
China will be the orchestral heart of this extraordinary phenomenon serving as its instrumental engine of capital, technology, and infrastructure. This will reignite three millennia old traditions of East Asia collaborating with the Arabian and Persian worlds.
A new Maritime Silk Road will be established from the Strait of Hormuz to the Malacca Strait to modernise global shipping efficiency as well as the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor, China-Pakistan Corridor, China-Indochina Peninsula Economic Corridor, China-Central Asia-West Asia Economic Corridor, and the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor.
High-speed rail will run from China through South-East Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East. Special Economic Zones from Vietnam to Oman will build Asia’s manufacturing base while Chinese technology and services will be exported in the form of AI, 5G, autonomous vehicles, fibre-optic internet, renewable energy, e-commerce, and fintech. Smart cities are already being built for example in Malaysia and the UAE by Huawei, Alibaba, and SenseTime.
The Asian Century with China (1st by GDP) and India (3rd and eventually 2nd) serving as its vanguard will have taken charge by 2030 with half of the world's top 30 economies while by 2050 Indonesia will be fourth and by 2075 Pakistan will be sixth.
